The Story

Brunswick is a name that's been part of the music industry since the 1920s, releasing it's recordings through the Americian arm of Decca, and in 1957 they signed a singer that would change the labels identity forever..Jackie Wilson started a string of classic hits with "Reet Petite" and by the late 50s and early 60s he "was" the brunswick label. Eager to keep Jackie at the company, Decca they gave control of the company to his manager Nat Tarnopol. In 1965 he brought in the legendary Carl Davis to revive the labels fortunes.Producing hit after hit, he soon was promoted to A & R directo. So with Davis at the helm Brunswick soon became one of the country leading Soul music labels. He brought in The Artistics, Chi-Lites the Young-Holt Trio Gene Chandler and Barbara Acklin, producing hits with them all.Sadly the label collapsed in 1977, but it's still left us with a great collection of classic soul music ......this then is a look at some of the great music, from a great label...This is the Brunswick Story.
