  THE STORY

FONTANA was originally an independent label in France, However in Britain it was under the empire of PHILIPS.

It brought many unusual acts to the attention of the record buying puplic, issuing records by acts as diverse as Johnny Mathis and the Marvelettes in the early 60s, and later on by some who went on to greater things after a name change......

The Who (High Numbers) - Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page) - Slade (Ambrose Slade), to name just three.

During it's most successful years the label issued records by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky Mick & Tich, Spencer Davis Group, Mnafred Mann and Wayne Fontana, who contary to public opinion took his stage name from Elvis Presley's first drummer DJ Fontana and not the record label

FONTANA LPs and EPs were normally black, grey and silver, whilst the 45s were blue and silver.

In 1969 FONTANA was absorbed into the Virtigo and Mercury labels.

FONTANA STILL REMAINS ONE OF BRITIANS FINEST RECORD LABELS.
