northern soul -THE TWISTED WHEEL SOUND
The Twisted Wheel first opened it's doors back in 1963 and was based in Brazennose St, just off Albert Square, and fast became one of Manchesters top R n B venues attracting some of the finest performers, from the UK and overseas. In 1966 it moved to new premises in Whitworth St, and this time became the "In" place to be for the local Mods. Soul music soon took over, and the club still attracted the very best acts...... .......this time the likes of Jnr Walker, Edwin Starr and Ben E. King took to the stage, as well as the home grown soul bands such as Jimmy James, Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band and Ferris Wheel (Check Out = Best Of British Page).The music was out and out ..Soul of the highest standard, all-nighters soon became the norm, attracting audiences from all over the UK . The Twisted Wheel closed it's door in 1971, due to the local boys in blue, however here is a classic collection of the music from those great days before NORTHERN SOUL was invented.....So let the good time's roll.....This Is THE TWISTED WHEEL SOUND.
